About Johnna
Originally drawn to the piano, my early years in a military family—and all the frequent moves—led me to pick up the guitar as a more portable choice. That, and hearing Paco de Lucía at a young age... I felt like my face was going to melt off (guitar players, you know what I mean).
My musical journey has since spanned a wide range of genres: classical, jazz, blues, pop, country, songwriting, Brazilian, and other Latin styles. I’ve always believed music has no boundaries, and I echo Willie Nelson’s sentiment: “There is only good music and bad music.”
I earned both B.A. and M.M. degrees in music, but the real education began after graduation. I’m still learning—and always will be. Whether performing, teaching, composing, or collaborating, I continue to deepen my musical understanding and share what I’ve learned along the way.
These days, I balance an active performing schedule throughout the Southeast, a full teaching studio, regular auditions and work in the Atlanta film industry, and service as a Lead Executive Board Member of the Atlanta Federation of Musicians, Local 148-462.
“Thrilled to have had my first opportunity to participate in the creation of this film both as an actor and as a composer. 'Touch & Go,' written and directed by Heather Hutton, is such a beautiful and honest biopic film. I have immense admiration and gratitude for her—not only for her bravery and artistry in telling her story, but for trusting me to help shape the musical backdrop. She opened a new creative doorway for me: composing for film and television.” ~ Johnna
*Since its creation "Touch & Go" has been featured in multiple film festivals throughout the world and has won several awards.*
